Nail-Don Body & Piercing is owned and operated by Donna & Ray Mortimer and their family. The salon is situated on the corner of Shanahan Pde and Samantha St a short distance from Redbank Plains shopping center in Redbank Plains, there is convenient parking in front of the salon or catching a bus is easy as it's on the main bus route with even distance between the primary and high schools. As the Salon is a home based business appointments are very flexible, the salon has set operating hours but after hours appointments are always available.
Donna started in the beauty industry in 2000 doing nails & waxing, working in a salon in Redbank Plains. Each year furthering herself and keeping up to date with new procedures but always keeping with Australian products made and manufactured to Australian Standards. She became a member of the Australian Professional Fingernail Association in 2003 in order to be more informed of the nail industry, and demonstrate to clients that she too had someone to answer to if the need should arise. The association has also kept her informed of the changes in the industry and with the influx of the 'production line salons' helped with the frustration and increased client base due to clients wanting nails to 'just stay on'. Courses in waxing were next and then relaxation massage.
When their eldest daughter showed an interest in getting her navel/belly button pierced Donna and Ray investigated the piercing industry. As Donna was already a beautician they were aware of the standards required with hygiene and cross contamination so wanting a safe place to take her was the highest priority. They were shocked to discover that the piercing industry was not regulated and finding a piercer experienced and accredited was difficult. After much thought and discussions with different government departments they decided that they would continue with the services already provided but Donna would partake in an accredited course approved by the government. Ray would continue is his profession but support the business in other ways especially with paperwork, orders and back-up when the salon was busy.
In the following 18 months our salon was upgraded to the standards required for a high risk lisence and Donna obtained her masters certificate in body piercing, all the while working with another accredited master piercer/tattooist. Ray is soon to take his maintaining health control standards Certificate.
Since then we have learnt so much more like dermal implants (jewellery placed under the skin) and continue to follow the trends within body modification.
We have learnt that every single person who walks through the salon doors is different, from their reaction to the consultation process, be it a wax, or a set of nails or even just a relaxation massage to the process of healing with a body piercing or an ingrown hair. Our bodies are a biological maze, we never know how we are going to react to anything so we must be so aware of every single thing that can happen. With every service provided we recommend to clients that they contact us immediately should they find the need, we pride ourselves in the high quality aftercare and products that we provide.
Our Goals for the future is as it always has been and will continue to be
- We will provide all clients with the highest possible service and aftercare available.
- We will provide all clients with a safe, clean and professional salon and surroundings.
- We will provide all clients with the best possible products and advice available for the service required.
